CSIRO, in collaboration with the EU-ORCaSA project, is organising a one-day workshop on soil organic carbon measuring, reporting, and verification (MRV) to share the latest scientific knowledge and applications from Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific region. Globally, there is a growing interest in MRV of soil organic carbon (SOC) due to its role in carbon farming as a climate adaptation strategy and its direct and indirect links to ecosystem resilience, including soil health.

This workshop will bring together, with a focus on:

  • Sharing the latest science advances on soil organic carbon MRV, by leading global experts
  • Research applications in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific region
  • Practical applications in carbon farming
  • A policy overview of soil organic carbon MRV at both project and national scales in the Australian context

The workshop is designed for scientists, academics, policy officers, soil carbon project managers, and landholders. Participants will:

  • Gain insights into the latest scientific advances in soil organic carbon MRV
  • Learn about measurement and modelling methods used in soil organic carbon MRV
  • Explore the applications of soil organic carbon MRV in agricultural systems and natural ecosystems
  • Engage with policymakers to support the practical implementation of next-generation soil carbon MRV approaches.
