For over 40 years, CSIRO's Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness has been a world leader in scientific research for prevention, preparedness, surveillance, and response against new and emerging infectious disease. Join us this November for two very special events in fields of One Health and emergency animal disease.
The Snowdon Oration (GMHBA Stadium – Captains Room, Geelong)

For decades, the biennial Snowdon Oration has showcased esteemed presenters in the fields of animal and zoonotic disease research. Held on the evening prior to the Emergency Animal Disease Symposium, this year's orator will be Robyn Alders AO, an Honorary Professor with the Development Policy Centre within the Australian National University and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University. Professor Alders will present on the topic "From crisis to resilience: delivering One Health in a multi-hazard world".
Emergency Animal Diseases Symposium (ACDP, Geelong)
Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 November 2025
The 2025 Emergency Animal Diseases Symposium features presentations from world-leading veterinary and scientific experts on current and emerging animal diseases and provides updates from Australian and international perspectives. The symposium is targeted towards veterinary professionals in the fields of veterinary, animal disease research, government programs and policy and animal industry bodies.
This year's Symposium topics include (but are not limited to): Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, Lumpy skin disease, Hendra virus, Foot and mouth disease, arboviruses, advances in disease investigation and surveillance such as Point of Care (PoC) testing and disease modelling, and One Health.
The event also features a social gathering for event delegates on the Wednesday evening, to be held at Frankie. Bar & Eatery in Geelong CBD.
To attend one or both events, please follow the registration link and RSVP before Wednesday 22 October 2025 or before tickets run out. Please contact us if you have already registered but are no longer able to attend.

Access and Parking
Visiting CSIRO ACDP
As ACDP is a high security facility, to attend the EAD Symposium you must:
- RSVP before the deadline. Please ensure you register using your full name as it appears on your identification.
- Bring physical photo ID with you to gain entry (passport or driver's licence). Photographs and digital licences are not acceptable.
Visitor parking is free, however there is a 5-7 min walk to the main building.
- Please arrive 15-20 minutes before start time to allow for site entry and check in before the start of the event.
- If you are arriving by taxi, you will need to be dropped off at the entrance gates and walk on foot to the main building (300m)
- If you are arriving by your own car, your details will be checked at the security gate and you will be directed to park in the visitor car park and walk on foot to the main building (150m)
- Please contact us before the day if you will require physical access assistance (e.g. disability parking)
Privacy and conditions
No animals on site
ACDP is a high biosecurity site and does not allow any animals onsite. This includes assistance animals (ACDP is exempt from permitting assistance animals).
No photography on site
ACDP does not allow any photographs to be taken while on the site.
Security surveillance
ACDP uses CCTV cameras across the facility and grounds to monitor plant and equipment and for security purposes. As you move about the facility and grounds, it is likely that your movements will be captured by the CCTVs across the site.
In the event of a security breech, ACDP's CCTV footage may be shared with relevant authorities and government security agencies.
ACDP also utilises and electronic system for access to various zones of the facility. While ACDP primarily utilises this system to restrict access to zones to authorised personnel, the system does provide ACDP with information on the zones that you access during your visit.

Your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). CSIRO will handle the personal information you provide in accordance with the Privacy Act, or as otherwise required by Australian law.
