Be part of an important conversation on the future of biological management in Australia. This free webinar will explore next-generation approaches to managing pests, weeds and diseases by 2050, as part of a project conducted by CSIRO Futures.
Project background
Australia's biosecurity landscape is rapidly evolving influenced by factors such as resistance development in biological threats, climate change, environmental impacts, shifting consumer demands and international trade policies.
In response, new approaches are emerging to support more targeted and effective biological management, but their development and deployment require time, resources and strategic planning. Australia needs a clear, coordinated plan to ensure next generation approaches are sustainably invested in, tailored to the Australian context, and widely accessible to those who need them.
Expert panel
Greg Williams, CSIRO Futures Health and Biosecurity Lead, will facilitate the conversation with the following experts:
- Sarina Macfadyen, Senior Research Scientist, Agriculture and Food
- Andy Sheppard, Co-Executive Director DAFF-CSIRO Catalysing Australia's Biosecurity Initiative
- Maria Trainer, Executive Director, Registration Management, APVMA
Agenda
- Overview of Phase 1 of the project; an assessment of several next generation approaches.
- Summary of potential Phase 2 analysis and the support required to deliver it.
- Panel discussion exploring why and how biological management should change over the next two decades.
