CSIRO would like to invite you to an information session for the STEM Community Partnerships Program (STEM CPP), which is part of the Generation STEM initiative. 2025 is the seventh year the STEM CPP will be running in NSW.

During the session, you will have the opportunity to hear about STEM CPP, benefits of participation and the school support on offer.

Who should attend?

We encourage Principals, STEM head teachers, careers advisors and teachers of all STEM related subjects to attend the session to learn about how their school can benefit from this exciting initiative.

Program information

The STEM CPP aims to create strong partnerships between local schools and industry, with the goal of highlighting local STEM careers and opportunities and providing avenues for students to develop their STEM skills in an engaging and rewarding way.

This program provides Stage 4 and Stage 5 students with an opportunity to engage in STEM inquiry-based projects to address challenges faced by the local community. The program is flexible in its delivery, suitable for a range of STEM subjects and is mapped against the curriculum.

Your Council and local industry will come together to identify some of the biggest local STEM challenges our community faces. We believe our local students have the ability to solve these problems and make a real difference in our community. Participating schools will be paired with a local STEM professional to mentor them through these challenges. Selected student solutions will be presented to the local community in an end-of-year project showcase. To read about the 2023 Western Sydney Showcases, please visit our blog.

In addition to inquiry projects, selected students will have access to STEM industry visits throughout the year and will be invited to apply for STEM work experience opportunities in Year 10. These opportunities will expose students to a range of different STEM opportunities and education pathways that lead to exciting local STEM careers.

Benefits of participating

It is intended this program will result in:

  • Higher levels of youth engagement in solving community challenges and engaging with the Council on those issues;
  • Positive STEM-based activities for students, which may increase scientific literacy and encourage interest in continuing STEM-based study and careers;
  • Enhanced connections between local schools, local Industry and the broader STEM networks;
  • Heightened awareness of local STEM career pathways and opportunities; and
  • No cost to the school to participate.

Next steps

  • Attend a virtual information session to find out more (dates & times and registration link to be provided) or we can set up a virtual chat at a time convenient to your teachers
  • If your school is interested in participating for 2025, then we ask your principal to sign a commitment letter
  • Upon receival of the commitment letter, we then invite two teachers to the NESA accredited teacher workshop.

Further details about program requirements will be presented at the information session so please come along to find out more.
