Applications are open for our first round
Applications are open for the first round of D.Start Spark, our new program under the D.Start banner, modelled on CSIRO’s ON Launch Camp program. It's a two-day experience where teams are supported in articulating their unique value proposition and identifying potential customer segments. They also gain experience in presenting their research in a way that’s focussed on problem-solving and the impact it can deliver for the Australian Defence Force.
Know some researchers who might benefit from D.Start Spark? Encourage them to find out more and apply.
If you want to know more about the program, you can join us at the Applicant Information Session on Thursday, 23 September (14:00 AEDT). Read more about the program and download the calendar appointment here.
Applications close: Friday, 8 October at 23:59 AEDT
We have a new round of ON Prime starting in October. This round is focussing on two of CSIRO's important Missions in development: Critical Energy Metals and Net Zero Emissions. We're supporting teams who are working on promising research to help industries or regions meet net zero emissions goals or helping Australia become a global clean energy superpower through better production of materials needed for electric vehicle batteries.
We can't wait to see what solutions the participating teams are developing, we'll send an invite to watch their Showcase at the end of January so you can see too.

We had 23 teams across two hubs graduate from the Winter 2021 D.Start Ignite. This round coincided with a Defence Event held at Land Forces in Brisbane and many of the teams were fortunate enough to attend. Luckily we'd planned for COVID dropping a spanner in the works and those who were unable to travel could join in virtually to our two breakfast panels, sessions with onsite coaches and virtual customer connections.
We're proud to announce one of these teams - Red Piranha has been announced as a finalist in the Australian Defence Industry Awards 'Cyber Business of the Year' for the second year running!
If you were unable to make it to the final Showcases we encourage you to take a look at the recordings for Hub 1 and Hub 2 and see what they got up to, and of course connect with the teams if you have contacts, ideas or inspiration for them.
It's our pleasure to feature one of those teams below.
RingIR was top of their Hub's leaderboard in D.Start Ignite Winter 2021
Can you sum-up your idea?
RingIR’s portable sensor technology can detect, identify, and quantify any gas down to parts-per-billion, in real-time.
Our patented approach to real-time cavity-ringdown spectroscopy provides thousand-fold increase in sensitivity over traditional IR, allowing for handheld equipment with performance traditionally limited to desk-bound, laboratory equipment.
With class-leading sensitivity and selectivity the RingIR sensor is suitable for early-response, threat identification and location, operational safety, and more.
Furthermore the modular design and small form-factor allow for sensor applications including stationary, dismounted, vehicle, and uncrewed/UxV systems.
How can the ON network support you?
Please get in touch if you would like to hear more about our sensor technology or would like to discuss integrating cutting-edge chemical detection into your platform!
