In this month’s newsletter you’ll be able to read about our new website, hear about online events, job opportunities at CSIRO and get ready for Christmas with our CSIRO Publishing offers.
CSIRO Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley to be next Australian Chief Scientist
We are thrilled to congratulate CSIRO’s Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley, on her appointment as Australia’s Chief Scientist, from January 2021.
The appointment is testament to Cathy’s personal scientific excellence, her broad vision for Australia through her invaluable work at CSIRO, and her commitment and role-modelling for diversity and inclusion for the next generation of scientists.
New CSIRO Alumni website
We’ve launched our new website and encourage you to explore the range of activities and opportunities available to our alumni members.
Connect with other alumni and former colleagues, hear about the latest science and build your own professional network.
Many of the CSIRO teams would welcome your experience and help with their projects. There are many ways you can get involved with our alumni network, programs and activities.
Read the latest articles and online features from across the world of science. We’ve set up a range of categories based on scientific area of interest, so you can read about research that’s relevant to you.
We now have over 4,000 members but know that there are many more former colleagues out there. Help us build the alumni network and forward this newsletter on or share the link to alumni registration.
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellows work alongside leading researchers on projects of national and global significance. They undertake independent research and are mentored by senior scientists, while being given access to generous personal development and learning opportunities.
Many of our alumni have expressed interest in volunteering as mentors, so we are running a pilot program to explore the interest and uptake in developing mentoring partnerships between CERC Postdocs and CSIRO Alumni members.
To encourage our alumni to volunteer as mentors, we’re offering you the opportunity to choose your own mentee. We have set up several CERC Postdoc profiles on our website and encourage you to read about their research and aims for a mentoring partnership.
In this way, you can see if there’s someone who might benefit from your own expertise and experience and get an understanding of expectations.
Many presentations and seminars are now being held online – so you can attend from the comfort of your own home. Our alumni calendar lists both CSIRO and external events, so you can find out about a wide range of events.
