As the executive sponsor for the CSIRO Alumni, it was great to launch the new alumni network at our executive team meeting recently. The team are keen to encourage collaboration between CSIRO and past staff with many opportunities to work together through our various programmes and research.
As our valued former staff, we want to hear more from you and stay connected, so if you haven't registered already, we encourage you to sign up to our online alumni community and spread the word.
As a member, you’ll be able to expand your network, search for former colleagues, join discussion groups, register for events and hear about exclusive opportunities.
We’ll be sending you regular news to keep you abreast of alumni activities. We’d love to hear from you too – so jump online and share your views, set up events and start discussions with other members.
On behalf of the executive team, we look forward to hearing from you.
Dr Anita Hill, Executive Director, Future Industries
For those that don’t know me, my name’s Martin Cole, and I am the CSIRO Agriculture and Food Science Director.
I will be chairing the new CSIRO Alumni National Advisory Committee and would like to invite you to join us.
I am excited to be taking this role as I have always enjoyed reconnecting with past staff and believe this is a priority for CSIRO. The National Advisory Committee for the CSIRO Alumni will be made up of representatives from each state and from other areas of CSIRO e.g. Global.
The committee will hold virtual meetings three times a year.
We are keen to find members who are interested in representing their state on the committee. If you’d like to volunteer to help with other alumni events and activities, please email us alumni@csiro.au
I look forward to building this great network with benefits for all.
Dr Martin Cole
CSIRO Agriculture and Food Science Director
Meet up with former colleagues and other alumni to learn about the latest and greatest science and activities, and build your professional network.
Check out the event listings for opportunities to attend seminars, forums, meetings and courses which are of interest to our members. We won’t be emailing individual invitations for all of them, so it’s best to check the calendar regularly to see what’s going on near you. Through the website, you can also create and promote your own events to the rest of the alumni.

February 2019: Alumni Scholarship in Physics, Sydney
The CSIRO Alumni Scholarship in Physics aims to connect the brightest young physicists or mathematicians to a leading research centre overseas or in Australia. The 2019 award ceremony was held at Lindfield on 18 February and was well attended by alumni and friends. The winner, Matthew Rendell, gave a presentation on his work on nanostructure research and fabrication. Hear more about Matthew’s work and his plans for the travel scholarship.
November 2018: Science Forum Series, Perth
CSIRO Alumni has launched the new Science Forum series, designed to update, explore and discover new areas of science discovery and the opportunities that industry, universities and government have to collaborate and improve the ecosystem together. The first of the series was held in Perth in November 2018: “Science and Technology to Secure the Future for Water and Energy”
CSIRO's Executive Director of Future Industries, Dr Anita Hill explored the role CSIRO and other research institutes play in the sustainable development goals and the breakable trade-offs between energy and water, and the materials that play a critical role.
Professor Benny Freeman outlined the water/energy nexus challenges and opportunities, and provided a glimpse of potential paths forward to supply the world with abundant access to clean water, reduce the energy required to produce clean water, and recover valuable mineral resources (e.g. lithium) from water.
Through our online forum alumni members can chat to each other, hear news, share information and opinions.
Our alumni team regularly post the latest science updates and breaking news to each group with links to articles and features from around Australia and the world. You can read it here first, with exclusive media releases ahead of the general public. Within our discussion groups, you can reach out to other alumni and tap into the network to collaborate on new ideas and learn more on different topics. Join or start a discussion to engage with other alumni, find resources and expertise or make new connections. Browse through the list of groups and join the ones that match your interests or feel free to start your own group and talk about what interests you!
