Join Wajarri artist Noeleen Hamlett for a hands-on art workshop at the Museum of Geraldton, where you'll be guided through the art of acrylic painting on canvas.
Noeleen is one of the featured artists in Cosmic Echoes: A Shared Sky Indigenous Art Exhibition opening its Australian tour at the Museum from July 2026.
Drawing on her Wajarri heritage and formal training, Noeleen will share her creative process and cultural perspective as she helps participants create their own original painted canvas to take home.
No experience is necessary — this is a welcoming and inspiring session open to all members of the public aged 16 years and older. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or simply looking to connect with culture and creativity, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a talented local artist and leave with a piece of art that is uniquely your own.
Participants under 18 years of age will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Each session is for a maximum of 6 participants.

About the artist:
Noeleen grew up in the small town of Mullewa on Wajarri Country in Western Australia. As a child she was inspired by her mum and brother who carved emu eggs. She has 8 daughters and 17 grandchildren and currently lives in Perth where she studied Visual Arts. As a professional Aboriginal artist, her art and research practice often combine traditional practice with unconventional techniques using other mediums that transform the image to a narrative of 'Memory and Land'. This combination explores how conflicting mediums work together, creating a unique visual language and representing historical stories as part of an ongoing project.
A key intention of Noleen's art is to invite the viewer to a closer understanding of Wajarri's unique culture through exploring land from topographical views of location. Noeleen will always have a passion for her culture and Country.
Cosmic Echoes: A Shared Sky Indigenous Art Exhibition
Wajarri Yamaji and South African Indigenous artists explore creativity at the intersection of modern science and ancient wisdom.
This exhibition reflects the richness of the Indigenous understanding of the world; an understanding developed by observing the movements of the night sky since ancient times.
Cosmic Echoes explores how this traditional knowledge resonates in the creativity of living artists who are sharing their insights with scientists working to unlock the secrets of the Universe.
Cosmic Echoes is exhibiting at the Museum of Geraldton from 4 July to 6 September, 2026. For more information visit https://visit.museum.wa.gov.au/geraldton/cosmic-echoes-shared-sky-indigenous-art-exhibition
