Abstract:

The standard psychological model of the human sees people primarily as individuals. In this talk I will outline an alternative model drawing on the social identity approach and use this to discuss what it means to be 'human-centred' in technology design. Furthermore, I will explain how this more socially embedded model of the human can be applied to understand the impact of AI systems on people, and how it might inform the development of more intelligent artificial systems.
