You are invited to attend this free webinar on the Future of Biological Management in Australia, a CSIRO Futures project that considers the role of next generation approaches to the management of pests, weeds and diseases by 2050.

Your organisation has been identified as a key stakeholder who may be interested in contributing to the second phase of this project. Please also share this invitation with any interested colleagues that may want to be involved.

Background

Australia's path to 2050 faces a rapidly changing biosecurity landscape, influenced by resistance development in biological threats, climate change, environmental impacts from conventional methods, shifting consumer demands and international trade policies.

In response, new approaches are emerging to support more targeted and effective biological management, but their development and deployment are time and resource intensive. There is an urgent need for Australia to have a clear plan for how next generation approaches will be sustainably invested in, tailored to the Australian context, and made accessible for those who need them.

Agenda

  1. Overview of Phase 1 of the project; an assessment of several next generation approaches.
  2. Summary of potential Phase 2 analysis and the support required to deliver it.
  3. Panel discussion exploring why and how biological management should change over the next two decades.

Panellists

  • Sarina Macfadyen, Senior Research Scientist, Agriculture and Food
  • Andy Sheppard, Co-Executive Director DAFF-CSIRO Catalysing Australia's Biosecurity Initiative
  • Maria Trainer, Executive Director, Registration Management, APVMA
