14 November: Engaging young women in digital technologies #1
Learn best practices for engaging young women in digital technologies and discuss implications for the classroom based on the latest research findings from the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). This webinar will include:
- An outline/overview of the changes to the v9.0 Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies.
- A discussion of factors that impact on engaging young women in digital technologies, drawing from the latest ACER research.
- Provide an opportunity to answer any questions.
Suitable as a standalone event, it is also the first of a joint webinar series by ACER and CSIRO Education and Outreach, sponsored by auDA Foundation.
21 November: Engaging young women in digital technologies #2
Part two of a joint series discussing how to engage young women in digital technologies, delivered by ACER and CSIRO Education and Outreach, and sponsored by auDA Foundation.
Suitable as a follow-on or standalone event, this webinar will:
- Put the research into practice. Showcasing approaches to implement the research findings in the classroom. This will include free resources, and lesson plans relevant to Years 5 – 8.
- Encourage you to bring along your ideas and/or classroom resources. With the support of ACER and CSIRO facilitators (and your fellow teachers), we will workshop these ideas into actionable classroom lessons.
- Provide details about the many resources available to help you with your future digital technologies’ classes.
- Provide an opportunity to answer any questions.

About the program
This is a joint webinar series by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), CSIRO Education and Outreach, and CSIRO’s Young Indigenous Women’s STEM Academy. ACER will use the findings from their latest research into best-practice for engaging young women in digital technologies, to discuss the implications for the classroom.
The webinar will include resources on the new v9.0 AC: Digital Technologies, factors that impact on engaging young women in digital technologies classes, an exemplar classroom activity and assessment for Year 5-6 and Years 7-8.
The webinar will be recorded and hosted on CSIRO’s website along with the dedicated classroom exemplars.
