More information
As part of NWR celebrations, we will be holding an afternoon tea at the Marsfield Lecture Theatre on Wednesday, 31 May at 3pm AEST.
Last year, the CSIRO observatory in Western Australia got a new name – a name gifted to us by the Wajarri Yamaji, the Traditional Owners and the native title holders of the observatory site. Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, our Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory celebrates Wajarri culture, and invites us to learn more about the language of the region.
Rachel Rayner, Senior Communications Advisor for the observatory will discuss how CSIRO brings Wajarri language into our astronomy infrastructure.
Leonie Boddington, from CSIRO Site Entity and a Wajarri language teacher, will share with us some insights on the language so we can all be a voice for generations and better support Aboriginal languages.
Afterwards an afternoon tea with indigenous flavours provided by Goanna Hut will be served in the Lecture Theatre Breakout Area.
If you would like to attend the afternoon tea in person, please register using the link for catering purposes. If you are unable to attend the afternoon tea in person and would still like to join Rachel and Leonie’s talks, webex details will be provided after registration.
Please RSVP by COB Monday, 29 May.
