The CSIRO Marine National Facility (MNF) offers Australian researchers fully funded grants of sea time on research vessel (RV) Investigator to conduct excellent research of national benefit. Grants of sea time are fully funded by the Australian Government through the Granted Voyage Program.

A Primary Application call is now open for fully funded grants of sea time on RV Investigator in the 2025-26 financial year. Applications will close on 21 May 2023 at 11:59pm AEST.

Applications are to be made under one of five access Streams that encourage a broad range of research and ensure national benefit. Stream 1 offers access to sea time on RV Investigator for research projects that directly address the Policy driven priorities specified in MNF Operations Rolling Plan 2023. Successful Stream 1 projects are expected to directly inform and influence critical public policies and programs.

The MNF will be holding two workshops in March 2023 to bring together researchers interested in making Stream 1 applications and the relevant end users to discuss research needs and opportunities. The end-users for Stream 1 applications in this round are:

  • Australian Marine Parks (Parks Australia) (workshop on 28 March)
  • Bureau of Meteorology (workshop on 29 March).

If you are intending to make an application for sea time on RV Investigator under Stream 1, you are strongly encouraged to attend one of the Stream 1 workshops. You can attend the workshops either in person (in Hobart) or online. Details will be provided on registration.

Further information for Stream 1 applicants

If you are intending to apply for Stream 1 access in 2025-6 please read Section 4 of the MNF Operations Rolling Plan 2023 and approach the end users at an early stage of proposal development:
