The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia’s Science Agency, has been conducting research on natural hydrogen for several years independently, in collaboration with international researchers and industry partners. Australia is currently experiencing an emergence of exploration activities focussed on natural hydrogen supported by state and federal agencies and an increasing number of industry players. The trend is becoming global with high demand for low-cost, low carbon emitting and renewable energy sources.

CSIRO is hosting a symposium in Perth, Western Australia from November 29th to December 1st, 2023, that will bring together a selected group of international and Australian experts from academia, industry, and government agencies to discuss our state of knowledge and knowledge gaps on natural hydrogen in the subsurface, as well as surface expression and atmospheric emanations.

The 2-day symposium at Fremantle will showcase 20 global keynote speakers presenting in-person across a variety of scientific themes in relation to natural hydrogen.

Each day will also feature a discussion panel attended by key members of scientific, industrial, or legislative background, chaired by CSIRO to spark conversations surrounding the future industrial and scientific pathways of natural hydrogen.

The days will conclude with poster sessions exhibiting CSIRO’s natural hydrogen projects.

Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided complimentary each day, with an opportunity to further engage over a self-hosted dinner on the evening of Day 1.
