More information

The objective is to bring together the global research communities working in the domains of impact assessment, technology assessment and responsible innovation in order to exchange knowledge and grapple with the challenges related to assessing the impacts, risks and opportunities of novel and disruptive technologies. The workshop will be organised to address case studies on Cyber Physical Systems (Autonomous Transport) and Biological Systems (Synthetic Biology). Keynotes will be delivered by Prof Armin Grunwald (KIT) and Prof Frank Vanclay (University of Groningen & IAIA). Experts from the respective fields will also deliver case study presentations, followed by breakout sessions. Discussion will be based around the following questions:

  1. How are current concerns related to these technologies anticipated to change into the future?
  2. What implications are likely to emerge and how can we manage them to benefit society?
  3. What are the key issues associated with each technology that have shaped our past responses, and will continue to shape our current and future responses?
  4. How have these concerns been addressed through impact assessment processes?
  5. How do current technology assessment processes enable participation and at which level?
  6. How do we anticipate that current impact assessment processes might need to change in the future?
