Registration and Innovation Marketplace open

Welcome and The Next Big Thing
Hear pitches from young CSIRO researchers on science and technology that will transform various agricultural industries over the next 5-10 years. From biologicals to nitrogen-fixing cereals, crops sensing and climate forecasting, these innovations are guaranteed to inspire us.

Morning tea

Let's innovate
Teams from research and industry will outline how they intend to address contemporary challenges or opportunities in agriculture. Working under the guidance of entrepreneurs, these teams have been tasked with responding to challenges facing the modern grain farm, smallholders in the developing world, evolving local food systems and changing business structures in agriculture.

In-depth exploration of the Innovation Marketplace
Ask the CSIRO climate crystal ball about next year's rainfall, sample CSIRO-inspired food and beverages, find out about the latest in plant oil engineering, crop mapping and forecasting, virtual fencing, smart irrigation and UAVs in agriculture. Learn how personalised food and healthy grains are shaping the food industry of the future.

Innovation - why should we care?
Join panellists, Alex Gartmann of Rural Bank, Mick Keogh of the Australian Farm Institute, Richard Dickman of Bayer CropScience and others for a lively discussion on the role of public and industry good research in meeting some of the big global forces shaping agricultural innovation.

It's all in the data
The top teams involved in a three-month data hackathon will present approaches to value-add a real farm dataset. Discussing how we can extract more value from our agricultural data will be a panel of industry and research leaders: Chris Sounness from Birchip Cropping Group, Bronwyn Harch of Queensland University of Technology, Jane Trindall of the Cotton Research and Development Corporation, and Adrian Turner from Data61.

4.15 - 6.00pm

Well-known ABC science writer and presenter, Bernie Hobbs, will MC the event.
